Today’s appalling shooting attack targeting congressional Republicans, which hospitalized House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), was apparently motivated by a deranged Bernie Bro who despised President Donald Trump and the GOP (and Hillary Clinton, too). Mentally ill criminals come from all political ideologies, so blaming progressives for the violence doesn’t make sense.  That said, we can and should proactively a culture that promotes understanding and empathy rather than alienation and dehumanization of anyone. That’s why it’s troubling that the Sandinista occupying Gracie Mansion refuses to pull taxpayer funding for a production of Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” with a graphic stabbing death of Trump. Ditto Time Warner, parent company of CNN, and The New York Times continue to sponsor the brutality portrayed by New York’s Public Theater, even as American Express, Delta and Bank of America were among the laudable brands recoiling at yet another deranged outburst from our alleged “creative” class.
