Trump’s Assassination Comments Are Deplorable, But So Were Clinton’s During Her Race Against Obama

Yesterday Donald Trump said Hillary Clinton would appoint Supreme Court Judges who would abolish the Second Amendment. The statement, however, ended with some observers saying he implied that supporters of the Second Amendment could assassinate Clinton to keep their “right to bear arms.” CNN reports his words:“Hillary wants to abolish — essentially abolish the Second Amendment. By the way, if she gets to pick, if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know,” Trump said. The campaign of Trump’s opponent, Hillary Clinton, responded by condemning his remarks. But in the 2008 presidential election, Clinton remarked about the Robert Kennedy Assassination which made a similar inference against Obama in the interview below: Given the context, it wasn’t relevant at all for Trump to bring up assassination, particularly while running against an African-American. Given the dog whistle politics throughout American history (also in light of the fact that it was Democrats who began the racist birther trope) it wasn’t right for her to bring it up in the least.
